Planning Your Wedding Catering In 2025

Planning a wedding is no easy job, and one of the first questions that will spring to your mind is “How much does wedding catering cost?”. You can plan a wedding on almost any budget. So, realistically, it all depends on your budget and personal tastes. In this blog, we are going to discuss the different options and price points of catering for your wedding day.

If you have an All-Inclusive Venue, then you probably don’t need to outsource your own catering. However, If you have the flexibility to curate your wedding and bring your own caterer in, this blog is for you.

The cost of wedding catering

Wedding catering under $50 per person

At this price point, you will most likely be looking at a canapé + grazing board style of catering service. Canapés are amazing for small weddings because they do not require any equipment hire. This means the cost of tables, chairs, plates and crockery all get removed. This allows you to spend a little extra on the catering, making sure it is still an impressive menu.

For $40 per person to $50 per person, you can get a substantial canapé/finger food menu. We will place an example below from one of our most recent weddings:

Wedding Canapé Menu – $40 per person

Peking duck, cucumber, parsley, plum sauce
Crispy beetroot tartlet with beetroot relish, whipped ricotta, black olive
Pork Belly lollipops, apple gel, baby coriander, kale powder
Arancini, portobello mushroom, onion, parmesan, pesto aioli
Pulled beef soft shell mini tacos, pico de Gallo, guacamole.
Beef slider, brioche bun, American cheese, tomato sauce, pickle

Wedding catering under $100 per person

For $100 per person, you can choose between a canapé service or a buffet service. Buffets can be slightly more expensive than canapés as you will need to hire tables, chairs, plates and crockery. This can add up incredibly quickly, and we do recommend looking around to find an equipment hire company that is reasonably priced. If you would prefer, we can organise all your equipment for you, making the planning of your event a little less stressful.

Below is a buffet menu from one of our recent weddings.

Wedding Buffet Menu – $72 per person
Butterflied and spiced chicken, deboned and sliced to serve.
Barramundi, lemon dressing, roasted cherry tomato, dill, chives
Ceaser salad, cos lettuce, parmesan, bacon, boiled eggs, Caesar dressing
Honey-roasted pumpkin salad, rocket, quinoa, fetta, pepitas, honey mustard dressing
Potato salad, boiled eggs, bacon, shallots, spiced aioli
Bread and cultured butter
